Allow Myself An Introduction

or: Inalienable Rights To The Guaranteed Pursuit Of The Undisputed Truth

Truth is such a vague concept that it's almost self-defeating to describe it, because then it becomes personified and subjective/objective instead of simply true. Yet most humans search for truth, while most others detest it like poison, and we all have our own interpretation or perception of it. It seems to me that truth is like time or the weather, unconcerned for humanistic apprehension or cohesion. Whether we "get it" or not, it exists and it's there for us to cherry pick beyond recognition.

My goals with putting my pen to my pad (these days, that saying is more evocative than literal) are to seek truth. Which I suspect is the case of probably 99.9% of all writings out there. Even in creating fiction, we search for some sense of reality, which is defined as any human's capacity for the truth around them. I believe it was Mark Twain who first said, "The only difference between reality and fiction is that fiction must seem credible." In reality, reality doesn't need to be understandable, relatable, desirable or mendable. It is what it is, so the saying goes, and it pisses most of us off when we truly think of how little effect we have over it.

I also believe it was the ancient Greeks who argued that if you keep asking the right questions, the answers must be the definition of beauty. Truth is beautiful, because in acceptance of it, one must accept that "the only thing you can change is your mind; the only thing you can control is your reaction" (to quote another great thinker, Donny Miller) and in doing so one can become liberated, which feels, in all honesty, quite liberating.

So it is with a liberated heart and mind that I continue to write, hoping to explore meaning and find truth wherever I go, physically, metaphorically, or otherwise. Please read these with the understanding that, while I may make a statement sound as definitive as the advice of your mother or the words of God, I am simply just another human with an opinion (and don't forget the correlation between opinions and assholes, people). Nothing is finalized, not even words carved in stone - so please, don't bitch to me about some electronic essays I may post for the mere purposes of entertaining, if not enriching or educating. Besides, a good joke can do more to provoke intellectual thought than hours of philosophical conversation, and words have only as much power as you give them. (Oh yeah, and I often quote the brilliance of others but don't always give credit where credit it due - try as I might, some things simply can't be properly creditted - so do us all a favor and don't claim that I claim to be the first to say anything...)

And away we go, with peace, love and silliness (not to mention that exact opposites) in our souls, to try and find the truth...
